herzl by steven beller examines the role of antisemitism in the formation of Herzl’s views. Debunking the myth that Herzl turned to Zionism because of the Dreyfus trial, shows that the Austrian rather than the French reality made him seek a solution for the "Jewish problem." Being elitist and, to some extent, antisemitic in his heart, Herzl distinguished between "acculturated, " "noble" Jews and "non-acculturated" or "money" Jews and believed that Jews themselves were partially to blame for antisemitism.
